Post-war condos and newer Long Island City and Williamsburg developments more frequently include washer/dryer hookups or stacked units as standard. After 25+ years in this market, I've seen buyers overlook laundry as a negotiating point, only to realize post-closing that the building's coin-operated room is two floors down and perpetually busy.

FAQ: Can I install a washer/dryer in my NYC co-op or condo?

It depends on the building's house rules and existing plumbing. Many older co-op buildings prohibit in-unit washer/dryers due to water damage risk and strain on shared drain lines. Some allow ventless or condenser units. Before purchasing, request written confirmation from the managing agent that installation is permitted.
