Description

Perfectly located on a serene tree-lined block along lower Fifth Avenue's Gold Coast, 27 East 11th Street is an impeccably renovated 25-foot wide, 5-story single-family mansion with approximately 9,000 square feet of wonderful interior living space and over 2,000 square feet in the magnificent garden, 2 terraces and stunning roof deck.

Features of this outstanding, meticulously renovated home include an elevator that serves all levels from the cellar to the top floor, a fully integrated Savant smart home system, 7 bedrooms and 10 baths, 4 wood-burning fireplaces, 3 gas fireplaces, radiant heat flooring throughout, a temperature-controlled wine cellar, and an 18-zone HVAC system with humidification controls. An elegant, sweeping circular staircase scales the home and brilliant sunlight shines into every floor through large skylights and grand windows along the rear facade.

The Savant smart home system seamlessly manages temperature, lighting, security, intercom, audio/visual and window shades. The entire system is controlled by iPad interfaces and can be linked to a smartphone and/or tablet. An indoor/outdoor security system with 16 cameras includes door, window, and motion sensors. There are over 50 speakers throughout the home for music and sound, and a centralized vacuum cleaning system services all floors.

Located in the heart of Greenwich Village just off of Fifth Avenue, this one-of-a-kind residence provides access to some of the best dining and shopping in New York City.

History:

27 East 11th Street was built in Greek Revival style, with a handsome stoop, elegant cornices and distinctive wrought ironwork at both the stoop and front areaway enclosure. The original, characteristic wrought ironwork has been fully restored and still stands today. No. 27 was part of an original row of 4 townhomes from No. 23 - 29 built together in the 1840s for different owners.

The front facade has been magnificently restored to reflect the home's original charming features including the wrought iron railing, balcony, historic gas lamp and re-appointed brick. Delightful shutters along the windows have been added as well.

Samuel Holmes, a dry goods merchant, made his home at No. 27, which had been built for him in 1845. In the years that followed, 27 East 11th Street became home to Willard Travell, a notable doctor of the late 1800s - early 1900s, and his family. It is the birthplace of Willard's daughter, Janet Travell, who was elected as the first female White House physician.

Layout:

Basement

The fully finished basement affords a wonderful wine cellar with temperature control, a lounge area that can also be used as a gym, media room, laundry room, bathroom, and building mechanicals. A custom-built entertainment wall unit and bookshelves line the lounge/gym and media room. The home's elevator serves this floor to all levels, and the unit for the central vacuum system is located on this floor.

Garden Floor

The home's gracious, beautifully planted garden affords a gas fireplace, an Alfresco BBQ grill with stainless steel cabinetry and outdoor refrigerator, and a snow removal system beneath the blue stone pavers. This outdoor space is wonderful for entertaining, adjacent to the grand chef's kitchen with over 10-foot ceilings. The private garden is accessed by a set of 3 large French doors which can all be opened to allow for indoor/outdoor dining. The eat-in chef's Allmilmo kitchen has white oak herringbone floors, remote-controlled cabinetry and a Ceasarstone center island. The kitchen is fully equipped with dual Miele ovens, a built-in expresso maker, Gaggenau refrigerator and dishwasher, Subzero wine cooler and Dornbracht faucets. A large pantry with a dumbwaiter serves this level and the Parlor Floor above. There is a separate guest bedroom suite on this level with a full en suite bath and access to a private entrance underneath the stoop. The planted front entryway under the stoop also has a built-in snow removal system and is lit by a historic gas lamp.

Parlor Floor

Enter up the grand stoop and through the original double doors to the impressive Parlor Floor with ceiling heights that soar to over 12 feet and white oak herringbone flooring throughout. The elegant living room receives brilliant natural light through large front windows. The dining room at the rear is adjacent to the fully equipped butler's pantry complete with a dumbwaiter to the main kitchen, Dornbracht fixtures, a Subzero wine cooler and refrigerator, and Miele oven, cooktop and dishwasher. The dining room also has a large temperature-controlled wine closet. Grand windows line the rear wall and allow for charming views of the private garden below. A set of French doors provides access to the rear terrace that overlooks the planted garden. The wood-burning fireplaces in the living room and dining room both maintain their original marble mantles. A powder room with Kallista vanity and fixtures completes this level.

Third Floor

The Third Floor is comprised of a stately library/study with adjacent wet bar at the front, and a grand guest-master suite with a huge guest-master bath at the rear. The library can also be used as an additional bedroom served by an adjacent full bath. Large windows in the front room afford beautiful treetop views of 11th Street. This room enjoys a cozy wood-burning fireplace, custom-built Poliform bookshelves and white oak herringbone flooring. The stately rear bedroom has a wall of windows along its expanse, which allow for magnificent sunlight and open views of the private garden below and surrounding townhouse gardens.

Fourth Floor

One of the full baths lies en-suite to a bedroom, and the second full bath is situated separately so it can serve the roof deck above. There is an additional washer/dryer and sink with a Subzero beverage/wine cooler on this level.
